xxi, [3], 357, [3] pages. Foreword by Eugene H. Peterson. Inscribed by Cathleen. Name of recipient blacked out. Jennifer Grant is the author of six books for adults, including Love You More: The Divine Surprise of Adopting My Daughter. She also writes for children. Her picture book Maybe God Is Like That Too won a gold medal from the Moonbeam Spirit Awards for excellence in children's literature. She has written for Woman's Day, Chicago Parent, and Patheos. For more than a decade, she wrote features, restaurant profiles, and general interest columns for Sun-Times Media newspapers. She was a health and family columnist for the Chicago Tribune. Cathleen Falsani (born September 25, 1970) is an American journalist and author. She specializes in the intersection of religion/spirituality/faith and culture, and has been a staff writer for the Chicago Sun Times, The Chicago Tribune, Sojourners Magazine, Religion News Service, and the Orange County Register in Southern California. An engaging and hilarious collection that encourages readers to tackle those strange, awkward, worrying, yet endlessly compelling passages of the Bible. The Bible is full of not-so-precious moments, from murder and mayhem, to sex and slavery. Now, an incredible cast of contributors tackles the parts of the Bible that most excite, frustrate, or comfort, like: What the heck is the book of Revelation really about? (The answer will surprise you.) How do we come to grips with the Bible's troubling (or seemingly troubling) passages about the role of women? Why did the artist of the oldest known picture of Jesus intentionally paint him with a wonky eye--and what does it tell us about beauty? DISQUIET TIME was written by and for Bible-loving Christians, agnostics, skeptics, none-of-the-aboves, and people who aren't afraid to dig deep spiritually, ask hard questions, and have some fun along the way. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated].…

The Bible is full of not-so-precious moments, from murder and mayhem, to sex and slavery. Instead of turning a blind eye to the difficult (and entertaining) passages of scripture, editors Jennifer Grant and Cathleen Falsani decided to take them head on. An incredible cast of contributors tackles the parts of the Bible that most excite, com for, frustrate, or soothe, with arresting insights like:
What the heck is the book of Revelation really about? (The answer will surprise you.) How do we come to grips with the Bible's troubling (or seemingly troubling) passages about the role of women? Why did the artist of the oldest known picture of Jesus intentionally pain him with a wonky eye--and what does this strange choice tell us about the beauty of imperfection?Unique, earnest, and insightful, this is a fresh, wonderful way to liven up one's "quiet time" with the Bible. It was written by and for Bible-loving Christians, agnostics, skeptics, none-of-the-aboves, and people who aren't afraid to dig deep spiritually, ask hard questions, and have some fun along the way.
