A Digest of the Charters, Statutes and Ordinances of, and Relating to, the Corporation of the City of New York, the Organization of the County, and to Other Bodies or Officers Connected with the Government of Such City or County, with Historical Notes, Judicial Decisions, Opinions of Counsel, Reports, Resolutions, &c. New York: Edmund Jones & Co., 1865-1866. Two volumes. iv, [5]-861; [1], iii, [3]-1087 pp. Octavo, (9-1/2" x 6-1/4"). Later library cloth, red and black lettering pieces and paper shelf label to spines, endpapers added. Light shelfwear, moderate soiling, a few nicks to lettering pieces. Light toning to text, somewhat heavier in places, light foxing and negligible faint dampstaining to a few leaves in each volume, library stamps and markings to title pages. $750. * First edition. This digest provides a trove of fascinating information about the organization of the city and the daily matters affecting its citizens during the final years of the Civil War. It covers topics ranging from the organization of the courts to laws regulating street lights, taverns and trash disposal. A second edition was published in 1866-1869. Both are scarce. OCLC locates 11 copies of the first edition, 7 in law libraries (Columbia, Fordham, NY County Lawyers Association, NYU, Pace, US Supreme Court, Yale). Not in the Harvard Law Catalogue (1909).
