Item description from seller

Published here for the first time in 1833 from Father Sebastian Resles's 1691 manuscript and very uncommon as such. There are no other copies in the market (that we could identify) and records show that no copies of this original printing have reached auction in over 100 years, since 1924. Abenaki is an endangered Eastern Algonquian language of Quebec and the northern states of New England, spoken by the Abenaki, "an Indigenous people from the Northeastern Woodlands of the US and Canada". Rebound in a late 20th century maroon cloth, with dark-leather title label along the spine. New, tasteful endsheets and pastedowns as well. The original text, all 574 pgs. of it, does show just a bit of light, scattered foxing but remains bright and clear and eminently legible. A solid, VG+ copy. And the Introductory Memoir and Notes by the great British editor and publisher John Pickering do appear, as called for, in this copy (oddly though, at the rear rather than the front of the dictionary).
