About this Item
Stapled brown wrappers with mounted photograph on cover. 8vo. 27pp. Illustrated. Promotional booklet for this Bridgeport, Conn. firm which was an early builder of submarines for the U.S. Navy. The booklet gives a short history of the company founded in 1897 by Simon Lake and a description of the factory grounds. There are many photographs of vessels built by the firm including its first successful submarine the Argonaut and a long section on the Protector and other submarines built for the Russian navy in St. Petersburg. The last part of the booklet shows other submarines built by Lake including an under-ice submarine torpedo boat. A good copy with some chipping to the upper corner of the front cover. The text is good with some soiling and wear. The inside covers have some faint staining. Two pages in the middle are chipped and torn at the right side and the staple binding has left some rust residue to the page gutters inside the book. Scarce. Seller Inventory # 11541
