With internet revolution and liberalization of economies, world is a small place. The Indian market is flooded with international quality of goods and services. Marketers are using all tactics to woo the customers and acquire a larger market share. We are exposed to hundreds of advertisements every day but can not recall even five at the moment. Development of Informal Economy explores the dynamics, causes, and consequences of the informal sector across developing and developed economies. This comprehensive volume examines how informal economic activity—ranging from street vending and unregistered businesses to informal labor and gig work—emerges, persists, and transforms in response to globalization, technological change, policy shifts, and socio-economic pressures.
Drawing from interdisciplinary research in economics, sociology, and public policy, the book delves into key themes such as employment generation, social protection, gender disparities, taxation, and urban development. It critically analyzes the role of the informal economy in fostering resilience among marginalized communities while also assessing the challenges it poses for state regulation and economic planning.
