Item description from seller

A fine copy of this small booklet is the very first production from the workshop of Simon Lawrence, that was to become the famous and fabulous, Fleece Press. Includes a frontispiece wood-engraving of Bere Ferrers church by Chris Bayley, the genesis of the wonderful wood-engraving printing to be undertaken by Simon in the years following. With an Introduction by Richard Knowles FSA, this booklet transcribes a letter relating the unfortunate death of Charles Alfred Stothard, antiquarian draughtsman, who fell to his death in 1821 in Bere Ferrers church. Printed in an edition of 100 copies only, this copy is in as new condition. 12pp.
