Not dated but BL dates as 1860. No inscriptions, black on yellow endpapers advertising Dean & Son children s books including New Series of English Struwelpeters, by Miss Corner, movable, picture (& untearable books to back cover). The 6 triple thick pages of Dissolving images with text underneath, Land/ Sea one section detached and land needs fitting in place, , War /Peace behind and needs fitting, Day/Night one section detached night needs fitting, , Summer/Winter summer two sections detached and night needs fitting in place, ,Fire/Water fire needs fitting, Earth/Air one section detached. The illustrations signed Calvert, Sc. so most likely William Calvert. Each of the 6 pages with a scene with a pull base/top that changes the view on a Venetian blind style slat mechanism. As with all our rare books like this, in original un-restored condition. Dean & Son in their advertisement described the work as a A New Style of Movable Book. The fragility of this Victorian semi-movable book makes them almost impossible to find in good original condition. So this is a fair/good un-restored example of this hard to find transformation/movable work. Please see our other children s books including movable & some very rare tiles. Size: 18.5 x 27cm.approx.
