A really beautiful Victorian children's book with musical scores by Myles B. Foster (organist of the Foundling Hospital) to accompany 30+ superb colour illustrations around the theme of a day in a child's life. There are nine scenes: Waking, The Lesson, Playtime, Grace before Meals, Song of a Doll, A Romp, Tired, Child's Prayer and Sleeping. Illustrations by Kate Greenaway, the doyenne of Victorian children's illustrators. Engraved and Printed by Edmund Evans. .Glorious frontispiece - the largest illustration in the book. Quarter cloth and boards with bevelled edges. Measures 10" x 8.5" wide. Green, yellow, brown and orange pictorial boards with minor scuffing at edges and corners. Lime green endpapers, 2 tiny closed nicks. No other marks, inscriptions or defects. Overall a really pleasing book and very scarce in this lovely condition.
