- Abraham Lincoln, American History, Civil War
Written by the critically acclaimed author of Ghosts of Cape Sabine, Dark Union reveals for the first time how the plot to assassinate Abraham Lincoln was woven through an even more complex scheme to pay for and profit from the Union war effort by trading in Confederate cotton. Based largely on previously unseen, long–lost archival material to which the authors have exclusive access this book explains why, ironically, this scheme was approved by Lincoln himself. It also provides additional evidence that John Wilkes Booth was, as some have asserted, not killed soon after the assassination, but rather fled to India.
Leonard F. Guttridge (Alexandria, VA) is the critically acclaimed historian and author of Ghosts of Cape Sabine: The Harrowing True Story of the Greely Expedition; Icebound: The Jeannette Expedition′s Quest for the North Pole; Mutiny: A History of Naval Insurrection; and The Commodores. Ray A. Neff (Marshall, IL) is a former chemistry professor who owns the rich trove of research material on which much of the book is based.
