Item description from seller

Large paper first edition, number 125 of only 250 copies - the largest and most desirable of the three formats in which the Badminton Library was issued. The only volume in the Badminton Library written by a woman. Lilly Grove's survey of dance history - from the dances of antiquity and ritual dance to the national dances of Europe and beyond, with musical examples throughout - was considered among the most important nineteenth-century books on dance and remained a standard reference for decades. Grove married Sir James George Frazer, author of The Golden Bough, the year after publication. Illustrated by Percy Macquoid and by numerous reproductions of engravings, prints and photographs. Condition: See detailed photos. Reach out with any questions. Professionally packed and shipped with care.
