Alexander "Sandy" Keith was one of the most devious criminals of the nineteenth century, orchestrating the most infamous terrorist plots of the Civil War. But after the war, dogged by creditors and victims of his frauds, Keith kept on the move, leaving a trail of scams, schemes, and cheated women in his wake. Finally, in 1875, while posing as an American businessman in Germany, he detonated a bomb on a dock, killing eighty people and injuring fifty. Larabee's prose deftly moves between thriller, biography, and historical account to highlight the "Crime of the Century" as a desperate last act of a power-obsessed criminal. Included are photographs, endnotes, a selected bibliography, and an index. This copy is clean and solid.
