The first printing, with "Published May, 1936" on the copyright page. Historical novel about settlers in the central Mohawk Valley of the New York frontier during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). It served as the basis for the 1939 John Ford film starring Henry Fonda and Claudette Colbert. Octavo: 592 p. with endpaper maps. Original blue cloth binding, with orange stamping. An especially crisp example. The dust jacket is moderately toned along the spine and folds, with some mild edgewear and a few neat tape reinforcements to the verso; otherwise very good.
