About this Item
First impression of the true first edition, published by Faber & Faber in September 1933. The book was originally published in 1930 by The Hours Press in Paris (Gallup A31d). ***Near fine in black cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright, having been protected by the dustwrapper. The boards are also beautifully clean and unmarked. The spine is straight with no reading lean. No tears to the fragile cloth, and no bumps or creases. Corners sharp. Top edge of the page block stained yellow by the publisher - still fresh and clean. Fore-edge and bottom edge of the page block rough-cut (i.e. untrimmed). Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. Clean pages with no annotations. No chips, tears or creases. No foxing - just light off-setting to the endpapers. Spine tight. ***In a very good printed dustwrapper, which is complete and has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 7s. 6d. net. Apart from some slight, and inevitable, wear at the top and tail of the spine, the dustwrapper is remarkably well preserved, and retains the vibrant orange colour to most of the front and back panels, with just a touch of fading on the back panel near to the spine. The spine colour has typically faded, but is still nice and clean with no marks or browning. There is some light rubbing and edge-wear to the extremities. The foldover flaps are clean, dark orange, and uncreased. ***208mm x155mm. 154 pages. ***'Hitherto Mr. Pound's "Cantos" have not been easily available in this country. The present edition will satisfy all readers: it contains Mr. Pound's latest corrections, is worthily produced and moderately priced.' ***"Nothing could be more true than to say that we all owe a great deal to him. But I, most of all, surely." - James Joyce, "One seems to be listening to the voice of a poet who has never died." - Glenway Westcott (Quote and review quotes taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***First impression of the true first edition of "A Draft of XXX Cantos" by the American Modernist poet Ezra Pound. This first UK publication of the Cantos by Faber & Gwyer is scarce now, especially in the original dustwrapper. A beautiful collector's copy. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 8702
