(Author's description) 'Our story is not only unusual but probably unique and in modern times almost impossible to replicate. Today's care "model" contrasts with the institutional childcare that we experienced in the middle of the 20th century. Separated from home life I spent my first eight years, along with my three elder siblings, in the care of Barnardos in three separate homes. This story is not one of malice and retribution for a childhood lost but a celebration of the fun and joy we shared during those early years. Our time in Barnardo's may now be a distant memory but I, personally, feel thankful for the life that I have and for the care provided for us but especially for the preparation for our future lies in the big 'outside' world" Ref A5 3.…
