Tight binding. No chips, tears, creases to pages. Frontis protected by tissue is a picture of the author. Illustrated with engravings. Decorative coverboards with gilt embossed lettering. Fold out map of the "Father of Waters". No inscriptions on pages. Some wear to coverboards, mainly at top and bottom of spine. Self-described as "an account of the discovery of the true source of the Missippi, together with views, descriptive and pictorial, of the cities, towns, villages and scenery on the banks of the river, as seen during a canoe voyage of over 3000 miles from its head waters to the Gulf of Mexico". Floral decorated endpapers 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 443 pp. + 53 page Publisher's Appendix, listing other titles.
