Only one copy on COPAC held at the Imperial War Museum. 8vo. pp. 57, [ii]. Original green card covers lettered gilt on upper cover. From John Lewis' collection sold at Sworders on 31/03/2015 and with the auction number loosely inserted. A book of verse collected for the author's daughter and as yet unborn grandchildren, includes a golf poem, and several poems relating to Hitler and the Nazis and a parody of Lewis Carroll's 'The Walrus and the Carpenter'. In his message to his daughter Cannan says that he has given this last poem a perforated edge and has numbered it 22A so that it can easily be removed without affecting the pagination if some of the words don't meet with her approval, he goes on to say 'your mother would have none of it' so a compromise was reached. The author was based in Shanghai so some poems relate to China. John Lewis (1912 1996) was a typographer, book designer, author and illustrator. A few small marks to covers. Very good. Very good with some light wear.
