Digital Mosaics builds on a theme I first introduced in my book Digital Mantras -- the idea of a "digital aesthetic". While digital media hold tremendous promise, today the potential has barely been tapped. We think of digital media largely in terms of "old" media -- the very idea of a web "page" is derived from print. Digital Mosaics explores how artists and other pioneers are exploring the frontiers of digital media to express ideas that could not even have been conceived of prior to the invention of the computer -- including virtual sculpture, fractals worlds, artificial life, and entirely new dynamic musical experiences.
