FIRST EDITION 1897. 8vo, approximately 230 x 140 mm, 9 x 5½ inches, small text illustrations, title page in red and black, pages: x, 1-386, original publisher's cloth, gilt lettering to spine and upper cover, top edge gilt, pages untrimmed as issued, old ink name to flyleaf, bookplate to first pastedown. Tiny tear to foot of spine, slight pale staining to covers, shallow horizontal crease affecting the first few pages including half-title and title page, a very good copy. The chapter on Taming of the Shrew has 22 pages on Hawking; Chapter on a Day's Hawking has 38 pages on Hawking and Falconry, plus 5 pages in the notes at rear on the The Language of Falconry.
