Benjamin Goldsmid (1753-1808) and his brother Abraham Goldsmid (1756-1810) were Jewish financiers who negotiated several important government loans and became some of the largest loan contractors in England. They also gained a controlling influence on the London stock exchange. As associates of British Prime Minister William Pitt (the younger), the brothers provided financial support to the government to carry on military campaigns against France during the French Revolutionary Wars (1792-1799). After serious bouts of depression, Benjamin took his own life in 1808. Two years later, Abraham also committed suicide after he was forced into financial ruin and bankruptcy. This Act outlined the agreement to pay the debt of £466,700 owed to the Crown. Seller Inventory # 132
