Clean except for dust smudges and a touch of foxing along the head edge of the page block; no owners' marks; full cloth cover shows modest shelfwear at spine ends and corners and a slight lift to the front foreedge, otherwise excellent. Cyrus Clay Carpenter was the eighth governor of Iowa and an officer during the American Civil War. This book follows him from his birth in the colony of Massachusetts to his 1871 gubernatorial election, his time as a congressman, and through to his death in 1898.
