Sterling condition softcover copy, with unfurled tips, tight binding, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear. Contributions by the editor, Gijsbert Vonk and by Sarah Van Walsum, Paul Schoukens, Danny Pieters and Klaus Kapuy, a fine survey of cross-border welfare state developments. From the publisher's blurb, "The position of non-EU migrants in social security is problematic. Many European States reduce access to social benefits for categories of migrants whose presence is not desired. At the same time, the scope of application of the national systems is becoming more confined to the national borders, as, for example, countries take measures to reduce the exportability of benefits. These two trends of exclusion and retrenchment particularly affect irregular immigrants and persons moving between Europe and developing countries who are not protected by any bilateral social security agreements. The background of these trends can be traced back to the way social security interacts with immigration and civic integration policies. This book addresses this interaction with contributions on: the social security position of irregular migrants * the reception of asylum seekers * income requirements in immigration law * civic integration * informal social security protection of formally excluded migrants * social protection and voluntary return. These separate contributions lead to an overall analysis on the position of excluded migrants. Knowing that the exclusion of certain immigrants from social security is legitimate - from the point of view of national policies or even from the point of view of the logics of social security itself - what alternative strategies can be developed in order to give protection to excluded migrants without undermining these policies and logics?" A fine contribution to the series Social Europe - Vol. 29. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. xvi [1], 2-260 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Store description
Member, I.O.B.A. (the Independent On-line Booksellers Association) "Structure" versus "Agency." A phrase that has characterized much social-scientific debate. Does “structure” (the routinized regulations of kinship and marriage, work and reproduction, of race, class and gender) determine history, or is it the “agency” of fully conscious, independently acting, individuals? Structure, Verses, Agency Books isn’t going to solve the debate, but we’ll offer you lots of all three. Versus to verses—we specialize in fine, rare and collectible books, from the fine arts to the social sciences, from poetry to photography, from literature and ethnography to fine bindings and Americana. Structure, Verses, Agency Books…

Terms of sale
I've done my best to state clearly and truthfully the condition of each and
every book I have listed on-line. Sometimes, however, books change condition
insofar as they sit on the shelf for a long time, get moved by customers,
get taken to and from book fairs, and so on. If for some reason you don't
like your purchase or it arrives somehow damaged, or if it doesn't get to
you at all, you might be eligible for a refund within 30 days of the
estimated delivery date. If you've changed your mind about a book that
you've ordered, please contact me or use the "Ask bookseller a question"
link to contact me and I'll respond within two business days.
