Item description from seller

A pleasing first edition of this very scarce Golden Age detective novel from E. C. R. Lorac, set in Lancashire. First edition. Very scarce. In the publisher's red cloth binding. With a sketch map. From Golden-Age crime writer E. C. R. Lorac, the pen name of Edith Caroline Rivett. She published her first detective novel in 1931; this was The Murder on the Burrows, a well-crafted debut which launched her detective Macdonald on a career that was to last for more than a quarter of a century. This novel, the 38th in this long-running series, sees Chief Inspector MacDonald of Scotland Yard offer to lend his assistance to investigate sheep-stealing in Lancashire. A desirable copy from this author of the Golden Age of detective fiction, who is now attributed with many rare titles. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with mild rubbing and bumping to the extremities. A hint of fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with a few light spots to the endpapers. Contemporary ownership inscription to the front free endpaper. Very Good Indeed.
