The volume consists of : 1. The Fifth Part of Gottfried's chronicles, being the Second Part of the "Chronicles of the Holy Roman Empire;" 244 pages covering the years 306-1001, published in 1631; illustrated with 39 plus copper engravings. 2. The Sixth Part of his chronicles, being the "Third Part of the Chronicles of the Holy Roman Empire," 410 pages covering the years 1002-1522, published in 1632; 40 engravings. 3. The Seventh Part of his chronicles being the "Fourth Part of the chronicles of the Holy Roman Empire;" 399 pages covering the years 1515-1600 published in 1633; 39 engravings plus portraits. 4. The Eighth Part of his Chronicles being the "Fifth Part of the Chronicles of the Holy Roman Empire;" 270 pages covering the years 1602-1618 published in 1634; 17 engravings (including foldouts of map and castle plan). The four volumes are bound together in a contemporary vellum binding, quite worn, but repaired and tight. The textblocks are in very good condition, age toned but perfectly legible. The copperplate engravings are masterfully executed and give a unique glimpse of the 17th century view of a very blood-thirsty history of Europe. $10,000.
