Illustrated with black & white photographs, maps, and illustrations, and with tipped-in color reproductions of Lear's paintings. Glossary. Bibliography. Bound in blue cloth with gilt lettering printed on spine and gilt illustration printed on cover. Minor fading to edges; otherwise clean. In the color-illustrated dust jacket that shows a touch of sunning to spine. Lear explored Crete in 1864, thus capturing the island prior to industrialization. Dust jacket is now preserved within a clear, removable archival sleeve.
