Folio. [16], XX, [6], 522pp, XXVIIIpp. Original full vellum, with handwritten title in ink to spine. Engraved title vignette, and engraved frontispiece portrait of king Carlos III of Spain. Decorative head-, tailpieces, and initials. This rare work opens with a biography of all the 89 Spanish kings from Ataúlfo (Ataulf) to Don Carlos III. The second part of the book gives an account of the origin of the most important nobility of Castille, with notices of the principal concerns, civil and military, in which they were distinguished. The titles of Duke, Grandee, Count, Viscount, Marquis, Barons, etc. are explained, along with the prerogatives and privileges attached to their rank. Ex-library copy, with sticker at tail of spine, stamps on inside of front cover, half-title and title page. Ex-library pocket on inside of back cover. Vellum binding rippled and age-toned. Closed tear at upper front joint. Heavy water-staining to the first 9 leaves (front free endpaper, half-title, title, and dedication pages). Sporadic moderate to minor water-staining throughout lower margin of pages (not affecting text or engravings). Text in Spanish. Binding in overall fair, interior in fair to good+ condition.
