(price-clipped) [nice tight book, minor shelfwear, one-time owner's embossed name and address on ffep; jacket shows a bit of wear at corners, shallow chipping at top of front flap, red lettering on spine a bit faded but still readable]. Novel set in Greece during and immediately following World War II, as the country transitioned from German to British occupation, followed by a period of civil war from 1946-1949. The author, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, "was in Greece when the Germans came and returned to Athens soon after they withdrew in order to observe at first hand the civil war that followed.".
