1945. First edition. 47pp., many full-page and in-text black and white illustrations, 6 full-page colour illustrations and colour illustrations on the endpapers. Dorothy Clewes (1907-2003) was a prolific writer of books for children and teenagers, popular in both Britain and America. This is a story with a 'Wind in the Willows' theme. It tells how the animals, with the cooperation of the Stream, successfully conspired to drive away two humans from a cottage which had previously been unoccupied for many years. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with green titling on the spine and a green illustration on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition. The contents are tight and clean with a little damage and small tear on the fore edge of pages 13 to 16 that has an old paper home-repair. A name has been written on the reverse of the front free endpaper. The clipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and staining, mostly visible on the back of the wrapper. The spine is slightly browned and the spine ends and corners are bumped and nicked with small pieces missing from the spine ends. About 1/4" is missing from the top edge of the front flap and a date (1945) has been written just below the missing piece. Seller Inventory # gChild26
