Sidney, printer, Northumberland-street, Strand. Bound in at the end of this volume is a 16 page catalogue, dated Dec.1, 1808, of "Modern Publications and New Editions of Valuable Standard Works, printed for Longman , Hurst, Rees, and Orme, Paternoster-Row." *Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany (1767-1827) was the second son of King George III, Entering the British Army at a young age, he eventually became Commander in Chief during the Napoleonic Wars. He resigned this position following a scandal arising from accusations that he had sold officer's commissions for money, through the agency of his then mistress Mary Anne Clarke. This publication comprises of the evidence of a select committee of the House of Commons convened to investigate the accusation. Frederick was acquitted by Parliament of misconduct and receiving bribes by a vote of 278 to 196. He was reappointed Commander in Chief in 1811* **A contemporary review of this publication in the 'Anti-Jacobin Review and Magazine' gives its price as 10s. 6d., and noting that "This Copy of the Evidence on the Inquiry into the Duke of York's conduct, is accurately printed from the minutes of the House of Commons. From the importance of the subject which it relates, it deserves a place in every library; and the price, considering the quantity of matter it contains, and the present dearness of paper and printing, is extremely moderate." ** Some wear to spine, label and boards, but text-block fine, making it a very good copy of a rare publication, without any library stamps, inscriptions or other markings.
