First edition in English of the German philosopher's study of the industrial working class in Victorian England. Bound in publisher's original brown cloth over bevel-edged boards, with spine lettered in gilt. Near Fine with faint rubbing to cloth at extremities, and a small, faint stain to the front cover. Tenderness to binding at front of textblock with exposure to several hinges and the first page grouping proud, otherwise sound. The top 1/2-inch of the title page has been excised to remove a former owner's name. The first English-language edition of Engels' first book. Seller Inventory # 140940910
