Item description from seller

First edition of this collection of international concrete poetry, "considered one of the major anthologies of the form" (New York Times). This volume explores the origins of concrete poetry in the work of experimental writers from Europe and Brazil. Mary Ellen Solt pens the comprehensive introduction in which she explores the origins of the movement. She writes, "no matter where the concrete poet stands with respect to semantics, he invariably came to concrete poetry holding the conviction that the old grammatical-syntactical structures are no longer adequate to advanced processes of thought and communication in our time." Solt's own poetry was exhibited at the Venice Biennale and the Stedelijk in Amsterdam. Margalit Fox, "Poet of Words and Shapes, Dead at 86", New York Times, 3 July 2007 Quarto. Illustrations throughout, some in colour, folding plate. Original blue cloth, titles to spine in white. With dust jacket. Minor foxing to edges and outer leaves; dust jacket unclipped, rubbed, edges nicked with a couple of short closed tears and tape repairs to verso: a very good copy in like jacket. …
