Gilt top page edges. The book is a collection of semi-autobiographical stories about the clever and rebellious antics of three students at a British boarding school. It portrays the school as a training ground for life in the British Empire, emphasizing cunning and independent thought over blind obedience. The book is based on Kipling's own experiences at the United Services College in Devon, which was a school for boys preparing for military or colonial service. Condition: Clean front and back covers; the red cloth and gilt lettering on the spine has partially faded. Sharp cover corners. Bright gilt top page edges. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. The text pages are in excellent condition and appear unread - clean with no notable issues found. Some very light tanning to the end papers and pastedowns, and to the half title page. Name written in old pencil handwriting on the front end paper. Overall the book is in Very Good+ condition.
