Item description from seller

Alois Senefelder’s A Complete Course of Lithography (1819) remains a central text in the history of printing. Written by the originator of the lithographic process, the book records both his narrative of invention and practical instruction. Its publication in English allowed a wider audience to access the technical details and artistic potential of the process. Friedrich Schlichtegroll’s preface introduces Senefelder’s achievement in the context of early nineteenth century scholarship. The work is illustrated with fourteen lithographic plates demonstrating drawing methods and variations of technique. Condition: Near Fine, in modern leather with marbled boards. The binding is secure and the text block firm. There is loss of text on the title page and frontispiece, yet the volume remains complete with plates present. Format: Quarto (4to), 11 by 9 inches. Collation: [xxvii], [1], [2], 85, [91]-342, [2] pp. Illustrations: 14 lithographic plates including frontispiece. Edition: First English Edition, 1819. #29223 PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.…
