The story centers around four women in a seemingly idyllic suburb who find themselves unfulfilled in their marriages and seeking extramarital affairs. Roz feels unfulfilled by her husband. Maggie looks for comfort in other men's beds due to her frustration with her own marriage. Elly waits expectantly for a deliveryman to arrive at her doorstep. Nan arranges scandalous trysts over the phone. The book explores themes of desire and boredom within this suburban setting.
