"On the whole, [this work] was a popularization of the physiocratic doctrines of Francois Quesnay and Du Pont de Nemours. Like them, he believed in agriculture as the fundamental source of wealth, in free trade (as against mercantilism), and in the power of reason to discover the laws that would preserve each man's right to enjoy the fruits of his labor." (EP, Vol. 2, p. 180). The Encyclopedia of Philosophy lists this work along with the four philosophical works (Essai sur l'origine des connoissances humaines, Traité des Sistêmes, Traité des sensations and Traité des Animaux) as Condillac's most important books. Contemporary full calf with gilt lettering and gilt devices on the spine. There is a two-inch bit of "worming" on the top gutter of the front board along with the usual bumping and wear. Still, this is a very pretty copy of this fluential work by Condillac. ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. Seller Inventory # 855
