Black boards with gilt lettering, white dust jacket with photo of bust of Menander. An overall appreciation of this greatest dramatist of Greek New Comedy - known for many years only through his Latin adapters, Plautus and Terence. In 1908 large parts of his comedies came to light in papyri discovered in Egypt so that his art could be appreciated on the basis of his own writings. The author attempts an overall appreciation of Menander as well as analysing the comedies themselves, their versatility and originality.
