Hinges cracking; moderate edge wear with noticeable abrasion at bottom edge; early - probably original - owner's signature on ffep; darkened spine. Still, better than Good, though distinctly short of Very Good. True first edition of Serviss' scarce classic of early twentieth century science fiction. Memorable on several counts, A Columbus of Space is an early Space Opera of the type which kept us all rapt as kids, is probably the earliest fictional treatment of atomic energy as a means of space travel propulsion, and carries stylish color illustrations by Howard Heath which presage the mood of Golden Age illustrations in years to come. Seminal enough - and rare enough - that it spawned a re-issue in 1974. See scans. L17n.
