"Material Dating From 1640 to 1933." Type-written text in a spiral notebook (approx. 8" by 10") with 147 hand-numbered pages, printed on one side only with 84 plates, some tipped in. (some are postcards, or illustrations from magazines and newspapers, some photogrpahs from book illustrations, and some reproductions from photographs by the author). Also includes some news-clipping glued in, as part of the page count. There is some loose material not included in the plate count. In his explanation at the beginning of the book. The author calls this notebook his thesis, but there is no date nor is an institution clearly named as the recipient of this thesis, nor is a degree named. The author does mention that some of the production work was done at "Cranbrook" and Ann Arbor. James Russell Bailey's designs for the development of Montauk Point, Long Island were published in the Architectural Record in 1933, and he went on to a career in architecture primarily in library design, commissions including Yale University, University of Virginia, University of Maryland, Medical College of Virginia, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Beloit College, and University of Georgia, among others.

Established in 1984, Alkahest Bookshop took over the space and stock of the Atheneum Bookstore on Central St. in Evanston, IL. For many years we were a partner in Chicago Rare Book Center, which closed in 2017. We are now on-line, and have a select general stock, with large sections on U.S. history, art, and literature.
