A smart collection of five first edition novels from English writer Charles Percy Snow. Five volumes. First edition. A collection of novels from the Strangers and Brothers series which deal with questions of political and personal integrity, and the mechanics of exercising power. Written by Charles Percy Snow, Baron Snow, an English novelist and physical chemist who served in several important positions in the British Civil Service and the UK government. This set contains: The New Men, 1954. A novel dealing with the scientific communities involvements in the creation of nuclear weapons during the Second World War. Homecomings, 1956. Following the narrator Lewis Eliot and his life pre, during and post-war. This book entails the beginning of a new love for Eliot, which shows an intimate side to his character for the reader. The Conscience of the Rich, 1958. Detailing the lives of Charles, Katherine and their father, Leonard March, a wealthy Jewish family, with themes of the conflicting politics of wealth and pre-Second World War socialism in England. The Affair, 1960. Set in Cambridge, this novel follows an unpopular academic, Dr Donald Howard, as he is dismissed from the college for fraud. Doubt soon arises as to the evidence and the fellows are divided into two camps. Corridors of Power, 1964. Concerned with the attempts of an English MP to influence the country's policy on nuclear weapons in the 1950s. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards. Original dust wrappers are unclipped other than Corridors of Power which has been price-clipped. Wrappers are sound with light wear and minor chipping to the extremities. Minor sunning to the spines with the odd small mark to the panels. Sympathetic repairs to the internal side of Homecomings made with tape. A large closed tear to the rear panel of The Affair with tape repairs to the internal side. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Minor age toning to the endpapers. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown of The New Men. Very Good.…
