Edward Mammatt (1790–1860) was an English land agent, surveyor, and amateur geologist active in Leicestershire during the early 19th century. Although not a professional academic geologist, Mammatt was deeply involved in the practical management of estates and mineral rights, which brought him into close contact with the developing coal industry of the East Midlands. The book gathers Mammatt's field notes, mining observations, and stratigraphic measurements, presenting them in a form intended to clarify the origins, arrangement, and economic potential of the region's coal-bearing strata. Provenance: With the ink signature of Baroness Grey de Ruthyn Anna Maria Kellam (1792-1875). Donovan, British Geological Books 1800-1850, p. 100. …
