Yeats"--is a revision of "The Poems: A New Edition" (1983) & provides accurate texts of all the poems by Yeats published in his lifetime or scheduled for publication as of his death on January 28, 1939, including poems omitted from earlier collections. Textual notes provide a full record of the copy-texts employed & any emendations admitted to the poems. This SPLENDID collection reveals the EXTRAORDINARY breadth of Yeats' verse, ranging from skillful retellings of ancient Irish myths & legends to passionate meditations on the demands & rewards of youth & old age. The EXQUISTE, occasionally whimsical songs of love, nature, & art stand in dramatic contrast to the somber & angry poems of life in a nation torn by war & uprising. And, in the rich & recurrent imagery of the rose, the gyre, & the tower, the reader can trace Yeats' quest to unite intellect & artistry in a single COMPELLING vision. Now, more than 80 years after his death, Yeats' verse continues to speak w/ clarity & eloquence through these timeless creations of a master craftsmen. * ABOUT THE EDITOR: Richard J.
