Kenny was a journalist at the Boston-American, New York Daily News, and New York Daily Mirror during the 1920s. Kenny is mainly remembered today as the lyricist of the 1931 popular song standard, Love Letters in the Sand a 1957 gold record hit for Pat Boone. Kenny's next big success, "Gold Mine in the Sky," inspired the Gene Autry movie, Gold Mine in the Sky (1938) and enabled Kenny and his brother Charles to launch their own music firm, Gold Mine in the Sky Publishing Company. His songs included Gone Fishing and "Scattered Toys" recorded by The Three Suns which has lyrics somewhat similar to one of his "Patty Poems . His poetry makes no pretense at literary greatness, it addresses simple earthy things a soldier ;s letters home, the thrills of afternoon baseball of children playing on a summer day to these he gave a warm appealing voice. The inscription reads: To Vic Ziminsky whose friendship over the years has been one of my most treasured possessions Sincerely, Nick Kenny Sept. 11, 1952. .
