Item description from seller

In May 2005 Penguin will publish 70 unique titles to celebrate the company's 70th birthday. The titles in the Pocket Penguins series are emblematic of the renowned breadth of quality of the Penguin list and will hark back to Penguin founder Allen Lane's vision of good books for all'. Eric Schlosser's unique brand of hard-hitting, edgy yet always entertaining writing looks beneath the surface of American life to examine issues ranging from the black market to burgers. When Penguin published his expose Fast Food Nation in 2001 it sparked a storm in the fast food industry; this piece on the terrifying true cost of cheap meat shows why Schlosser has been instrumental in changing our attitudes to what we eat.

Store description

Arranged over two floors, City Books is a general bookseller with a large range of carefully selected books, including an extensive selection of books of local interest. We sell new books, but not second-hand. Founded in 1986 and run by Paul and Inge Sweetman, the shop is on Western Road, in the Brunswick area of Brighton and Hove, bang in the centre of the city. Regency architecture dominates this part of Britain’s City by the Sea. In a competition held in Brighton and Hove, City Books was voted by locals ‘The Best Shop in Brunswick’. The shop has also been shortlisted twice for the national ‘Independent Bookshop of the Year Award’ and won the Muddy Stiletto award for Best Bookshop in Sussex in 2018.
