About this Item

First edition, first impression, and scarce not least with the jacket. Based on ter Horst's diary, Cloud Over Arnhem describes Operation Market Garden as it was experienced by residents of the strategically important town of Oosterbeek. For her services tending to the wounded, ter Horst earned the nickname "the Angel of Arnhem". The author's contribution to the Allied cause is represented in the 1977 war epic A Bridge Too Far, in which her character is played by Liv Ullman. Octavo. Frontispiece sketch showing church at Arnhem viewed from Rhine bridge. Original pale blue boards, spine and front cover lettered in red. With dust jacket. Boards and contents clean, light foxing to top edge; jacket lightly rubbed and foxed, more so on verso, unclipped: a fine copy in near-fine jacket.
