The tender and highly personal experiences and discoveries by a family of seven children and their parents are the theme. The action unfolds during a golden summer in the high mountain country of Pecos, New Mexico. It is more than a simple narrative of individual adventure. It tells the story of one family's refusal to let the pressures and wounds of modern day life destroy them as a unit, or take away their closeness and harmony as a group. How life i the Pecos' Holy Ghost Canyon knit them together again, how the tragedy of the children's pet was resolved, how the father made vivid the Civil War battlefields and Indian Pueblo ruins during jaunts to nearby historic places alll described with a novelists' skill, a naturalists's eye, a scholar's mind, as well as a parent's heart. Although the locale and setting are regional to New Mexico, the story is not--- it is a universal discussion of discovery and rebirth of the spirit. It could have happened any place, anytime---to any of us. Calvin Horn served with the Eighth Air Force during World War 2 and saw action in the European Theatre. He was an Albuquerque businessman who served in the New Mexico House and Senate including a term as Speaker of the House. The book you see in the images is the actual book we have for sale.
