From the Publisher
Looking for some new ideas to keep your house tidy that are uncomplicated, economical, and easy on the environment? Why not look back to a time when people relied on their resourcefulness and common sense? Before the introduction of caustic commercial cleansers and aggressive television advertising, householders managed admirably with the natural materials at hand - lemons, salt, baking soda, and vinegar, to name a few. This collection of tried-and-true cleaning advice, much of it gleaned from more than 200 years of The Old Farmer’s Almanac, includes recipes for highly effective household cleaners you can make yourself. Simplify your life with hints such as these:
To remove the smell of smoke from clothes, hang them above a steaming bath filled with water and 1 cup of vinegar.
To shine taps, rub them with a piece of lemon peel, rinse, and buff.
Spray your shower curtain once or twice a week with vinegar to cut through soap buildup and deter mildew.
With humour and understanding, the authors share hundreds of solutions that will save you money and make short work of your everyday tasks.
