It is the story of a woman jolted into examining her own capacity for love. It is, as well, a sharply etched picture of that New York City crossroads where the Talented and the Socially Prominent somewhat warily meet. A 1957 Playhouse 90 episode titled "Circle of the Day" was based on this novel.
