Item description from seller

FIRST EDITION. A richly illustrated and thoughtfully edited volume published in conjunction with the landmark International Exhibition of Chinese Art held at the Royal Academy, Burlington House, 1935–1936. This was the most ambitious exhibition of Chinese art ever mounted in the West up to that point, drawing international attention and unprecedented loans from both public and imperial collections in China and beyond. Published to coincide with the exhibition and featuring a series of essays by leading scholars and critics, including Roger Fry on painting and Bernard Rackham on ceramics. BOOK: Publisher’s red cloth boards, page edges and contents unmarked. DJ: Unclipped jacket vibrant, a little worn to extremities with scarce wrap around band.
