First deluxe edition, first impression, published by Harpercollins in 2007.

A beautiful edition featuring 8 full page colour illustrations, plus 25 black and white illustrations in the text, with a fold out map of Beleriand and a silk ribbon page marker. The book has gilt decoration to the front and back covers, plus gilt lettering to the spine. The slipcase also has stamped decoration to the front.

Slipcase with some very minor wear, book with smart covers, sharp corners, secure binding, bright pages, with a previous owners bookplate to the front pastedown, no inscriptions, the book has a faint stale odour, otherwise fantastic condition. Very good.

The bookplate is for Captain John Campbell, OBE, a hydrographer who converted HMS Hydra, a deep ocean survey ship, into a hospital ship which he captained during the Falklands war. He was appointed OBE in 1983. Seller Inventory # 001216
