Item description from seller

First edition, first impression. Jacket sadly tatty, with edge wear, chipping, closed tears and loss to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners rubbed with loss, three cornered tear and some loss with creasing to back jacket, some overall dust and time staining. Not price clipped (21/-), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a reasonable copy in a poor jacket. 204pp, illustrated. A biography of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), French dancer and balletmaster, generally considered the creator of ballet d'action, a precursor of the narrative ballets of the 19th century. His birthday is now observed as International Dance Day. Quite a scarce book.
