Charleston (Nelson Province, New Zealand) Its Rise and Decline By Irwin Faris. Publisher: Reed 1941, FIRST EDITION. VERY SCARCE. Good hardback with no jacket, boards are rubbed, marked and bumped, scattered foxing, some fraying to spine ends. 231 pages with photos. Fold out document in good condition. "One of the more interesting stopovers on the West Coast, Charleston has a rich history of being a boom and bust town. The gold in the nearby beach sands and the ancient inland beach leads drew thousands of hopeful prospectors to the isolated and barren wilderness in the 1860s. But as the gold petered out, so did the people, leaving only memories of a thriving settlement. Written by Irwin Faris, who grew up in Charleson, this is another classic account of the West Coast's colourful history." ALL PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK. All books are sent free by courier postage within New Zealand.
